Illovo Sugar is Africa’s biggest sugar producer. It has extensive agricultural and manufacturing operations in six African countries, including Swaziland, where it has a 60% share in Ubombo Sugar Limited. Ubombo, situated adjacent to the Usutu River in the south east of the country, is one of three sugar producers in Swaziland whose combined total sugar output of more than 580 000 tons is marketed and distributed by the Swaziland Sugar Association (SSA).
With over 1,200 permanent employees and a large number of seasonal agricultural contractors (working across an extensive agricultural estate, factory and refinery), it was an absolute priority to secure the refueling of vehicles and machinery in order to ensure that fraud and fuel losses were minimized. Illovo chose to deploy OTI PetroSmart’s Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) solution across a fixed refueling site, used for refueling of tractors and other smaller agricultural vehicles, and a mobile refueling bowser, used for refueling harvesting equipment in the fields.
